In Search of Family Music Subscription
Probably annually I’m getting deep into making sure I’m not too deep into Apple ecosystem. I’ve nuked Spotify subscription after numerous price hikes and AppleOne bundle being such a good offering overall.
But i’m back searching for an alternative.
The main reason I’m searching is because of music. My oldest is interested in music and although I don’t want to restrict their listening, I also don’t want to be in position where their Alexa starts playing Kendrick Lamar since it’s linked to my Apple Music account. I spent almost an hour today trying to link Alexa to my child's Apple account, and Apple just would not let me. Apple would not accept the 2FA code and that’s it. Extremely frustrating.
Spotify handles kids music well because it offers a really great kids music profile but it only comes with the full family premium account at $20/month. That’s expensive in comparison to AppleOne bundle when for $25/month I’m getting Apple Music for all of us, AppleTV, Apple Arcade and iCloud 200gb. Dang it, Apple is so great at pricing strategies.
The other competitor is YouTube Premium, which gives Ad free YouTube and YouTube Music for $23/month. Great offering, but I do not trust Google with child safety, and this is such the latest example. I’d rather stick to Apple Music in this case.
I don’t have an answer on the path forward, at this moment, I guess I’m a bit frustrated. Seems that if you’re offering a family subscription it should be a given that having a kid type of an account is a must, and I’m not sure why Spotify is the only one that offers this.
